How to Win in Pvp (Without Hurting Yourself or Others)

As you may know, the annual Wizard101 friendship festival has just passed us by. Recently I posted a throwback link to “How to Vent in PvP (Without Hurthing Yourself or Others)” on my Twitter and I was surprised at how many people were both liking the post and responding about how helpful it was back when I wrote it. So, I decided that in the spirit of kindness and friendship I’d attempt to assist once again, and finally complete its other half.

This post has been a little while coming and by “a little while” I mean two years. If you’ve spent much time in the pvp arena you’ve probably seen your fair share of rudeness, temper tantrums, and even swear-fests a bit of swearing, which- as we all should know -is against Wizard101’s rules. I get it though. Trust me. It’s really difficult to have courage and be kind keep quiet and/or be kind when someone is disrespecting you (or worse). This kind of behavior happens on both sides, coming from both winners and losers. However, it’s undeniable that it’s generally the losing side that has strong feelings about the match’s outcome or the winner’s play style.

You may be asking yourself, “But, Lion you already did a whole article on venting your frustration in pvp. Why are you starting off like this?” Well dear reader, it’s because of this that it is important to know how to win with grace so that people may not necessarily have to turn to my other article.

The Lionflowers Do Luau Pt. 2 Review

It has officially been almost a week since the conclusion of the Luau and I certainly hope that Hunter Flame our champion is enjoying his massive winnings (congrats to him!) because he definitely earned it. This tournament was so unique in its format and I was incredibly intrigued right from the start. I’m always looking for alternatives to traditional pvp because, as a storm it can be really hard to get anywhere. So, Cat and I both signed up and hoped for the best.

You can read how I got ready for this unique Tournament in Part 1 of this post! Just click the button!

The Lionflowers do Luau! Pt. 1

Hey all! I’ve been a little quiet here on the blog the past week, so this blog post is all about what I’ve been up to. I’m happy to report that the Lionflower sisters have been accepted and will be competing in the Summer Luau PvP tournament (sponsored in part by Duelist101)! Despite the fact that we will probably be killed off in the first round, we put quite a bit of effort into getting ready for the tourney and in part one of this post I’m gonna just talk a little bit about that. While we do have our opponent’s information- both Cat and I will be facing a level 110 storm first -but really nothing else in terms of how our matches are going to go, after all twists and turns are what Luau is promising.

I used to go to so many events and report back on them with funny asides, so I’m really hoping to sort of do that again with this. It’s certainly going to be very different since spectators aren’t really allowed and there aren’t going to be any other events going on simultaneously (costume contest was already held this week), but I’ll give it my best shot.

Death Incarnate: Autumn vs. The Ice Ceiling

A.K.A: the art of dying to ice repeatedly

As some of you know, Autumn my death does a lot of magus pvp. Through my experiences with Autumn I’ve noticed the absolutely staggering number of ices in the pvp arena at this level and due to the fact that they tend to be clumped at warlord or overlord, making it difficult for the rest of us to reach above warlord, I’ve taken to calling this phenomenon the “Ice Ceiling.”

Now, for some people The Ice Ceiling isn’t that big a deal. Some schools have a grand time facing these folks (I actually don’t really know if anyone does, but I feel like fire has a fighting chance? or anyone with an enfeeble pet that’s active?) but Autumn doesn’t. Am I at the point that I’m going to use ice dispels? Maybe No. Would I if I had room in my deck? Yes Maybe. Do I wish they would all shrivel up and die? Yes Maybe, but clearly at the time of writing I’m feeling pretty bitter and have just referred myself to my last post. Literally, pvp against these guys has started to feel like I am grating my forehead against a cheese grater.

Anyway, while scary, they are incredibly predictable which lends itself to my irritation. (Of course, the question is, can you handle the spell you’re predicting they’re about to cast? Usually not lol) So, through my very careful observations here are some of the spells the Ice Ceiling loves and common mistakes when facing them accompanied by pictures of me dying:

How to Vent After PvP (Without Hurting Yourself or Others)

Now, if you’ve ever done pvp before I’m sure that you can understand that it can be extremely frustrating sometimes. Be it a string of losses in succession, never being able to go first, or the pet that you’ve lovingly and painstakingly built decides not to heal…at all…we’ve all been there. And while for some people, this is not a big deal in the least- they just shrug it off and go on their way -for others this frustration can manifest itself as red-faced, righteous fury fueled by the power of a thousand suns. (If you’re one of those people, don’t feel ashamed. You can harness the power of a thousand suns! How cool is that!) Now, the main problem with that- or of course if you simply get angry, not necessarily start tapping into suns -is that it can make you get pretty mean or worse, get you into trouble in-game. So, today, I’m gonna share some tricks for how to effectively vent all that frustration without hurting yourself or anyone else.

Battle Sounds III: Music for PvP

“This series began one day a ridiculously long time ago now some time ago while adding new music to my “PvP Playlist” (yeah. I know. I have an entire playlist for pvp…just kidding, it’s actually just called “Favorites”) (It’s a little unfair to say it’s just for pvp, I listen to it pretty regularly just because it’s the kind of playlist that get’s me moving and motivated). I was finding new music to add because, like every other person ever, except for lovers of “classical”- no offense classical people, I get bored with the same stuff over and over and therefore never have the sound on while I play Wizard101. (Honestly, the soundtrack is great, but I can only take so much of that.) I decided, why not share my new favorites, I’m sure I’m not alone in not listening to the in-game music… And a new post series was born.

Updating Battle Sounds with a new edition! This selection is pretty varied but much more aligned with pop and alternative.

Top Tracks [for now…]

Disclosure_-_Caracal

Magnets by Disclosure ft. Lorde

Located On: Caracal

CWK_Hold_My_Home

First by Cold War Kids

Located On: Hold My Home

*Also Worth Listening to: 7 Years by Lukas Graham which has a similar feel

Invincible by Kelly Clarkson

Located On: Piece by Piece

*Also Worth Listening to: Piece by Piece (the song), though it’s a ballad and Something in the Water, Smoke Break, and Little Toy Guns by Carrie Underwood which have a similar feel while being more country

Bird Set Free by Sia

Located On: This Is Acting

*Also Worth Listening to: Chandelier, Cheap Thrills and most other things by Sia

Beyonce_-_Lemonade_(Official_Album_Cover)

Freedom by Beyonce

Located On: Lemonade

*Also Worth Listening to: Pray You Catch Me on the same album- this is actually my favorite track, but it’s a ballad and not as great for PvP

Rise Up by Andra Day

Located on: Cheers to the Fall

As always: Do you have a pvp playlist? If so, feel free to share some tracks!

Battle Sounds II: Music for PvP

“This series began one day a ridiculously long time ago now some time ago while adding new music to my “PvP Playlist” (yeah. I know. Welcome to the second edition of “Battle Sounds”! (See the first edition of “Battle Sounds” over here!) This is a post I’ve been promising for waaaaayyy longer than I should’ve…wow am I late with this…. for quite some time and it really is overdue. Since my very first ‘Battle Sounds’ post, my music taste hasn’t changed altogether that much. I’m still into electro-ish music, music I can move to or get motivated by, as well as a bit of pop. Here are my top five tracks from around-now-2015…

Battle Sounds: Music for PvP

This is a random post I thought of yesterday a kind of impromptu post I thought of yesterday while adding new music to my “PvP Playlist” (yeah. I know. Voltage: Julia Tests Tournaments!

Hello everyone! It seems like it’s been ages since I’ve posted anything…but really I just missed one weekend… oops… Honestly though, sometimes I have a lot of work and can’t write a post.

Anyway, this past weekend I did quite a lot of wizarding! I worked on both Autumn and Julia in the live and marched around the test realm on Julia. I was hoping I’d be doing a celebratory commander post for Autumn this week, but it was not to be. I met with both success and failure this weekend and ended up quite upset. Commander was not reached. I might have been treasure carded to death. There might have been some random minions, a triton, and three full pip ice armors involved. I also may have yelled a little…

Moooving onnn! Since I was angry at Autumn and the people who were derping around in lower level pvp on the live realm I decided to take Julia, my promethean storm, out to test ALL of the new tourney types on the test realm! yay!

Picture 2013-11-02 08-41-20

Of course I didn’t get around to “all of them all of them” (mostly because all the classic ones were super early in the morning my time which was really weird and disappointing) but I did do Myth & Storm Perks and two kinds of Quick Match!

Voltage: Julia in Khrysalis

Soo… this… is me… for the most part at least-Julia Lionflower is my main character, a promethean storm.

Screen Shot 2013-10-26 at 2.56.34 PM

Storm was not my first love, in fact, that was fire- a character I still have- but storm definitely is my only love now. Something about storm and I just click and I really have never committed to another school the same way.  [Spoiler Alert! If you don’t want to see Khrysalis yet at all, there are a few Test Realm Pictures coming up later in this post!! Also, now that I think of it, there may even be a rule about not posting test realm pictures…so… if there is I’m sorry! I tried to check, I really did. I can easily make this post about something else.]
