New Utility Spell Ideas: Balance

New Utility Spell Ideas: Balance

As we fast approach the end of Empyrea, I believe it is high time we received some new utility spells. As such I have designed 3 new utility spells for each school. I imagine them being acquired at lvl 30, lvl 60 and lvl 90. Each spell follows one of three design principles: 1)Tool(s) a school is missing 2)Team assistive spell and 3)Individual spell. First on our list is the Balance school. All cards created by LegendsoftheSpiral’s Card Creator!

Name: Kaleidoscope

Type: Manipulation

Accuracy: 100%

Cost: 2 pips

Description: Existing damage bubble now buffs balance damage by the same amount instead. Note that non-damage bubbles(such as doom and gloom) are not affected by this spell.

Explanation:  The Balance school had no way to fight the bubble war but this card changes that. With it a balance can turn an opponent’s bubble against them. The card remains balanced because it requires an opponent’s bubble to work.

Acquired: Lvl 30

Name: Propitiate

Type: Manipulation

Accuracy: 100%

Cost: 4 pips

Description: Distribute all positive charms and wards on self to teammates. Wards are randomly distributed but charms go to the school they match if possible. Miscellaneous or universal charms are randomly distributed.

Explanation: A deceptively powerful team spell that really shines with the tri blades. Since charms will go to the school they match if possible imagine this scenario. Wizard 1 casts spirit blade on the balance, Wizard 2 cast tc spirit blade on the balance, Wizard 3 casts sharpen spirit blade on the balance, Balance casts Propitiate. All of a sudden all 3 non balance wizards have 3 stacked blades ready for the next round.

Acquired: Lvl 60

Name: Splice

Type: Manipulation

Accuracy: 100%

Cost: 7 pips

Description: On the round after this spell is cast, you can use any spell regardless of cost, requirements or school of origin. This includes shadow spells. However, as a result of its powerful effect, it completely drains your pips after you cast the spell of your choice.

Explanation:  A very powerful spell that highlights Balance’s potential as a mix of all the schools. This spell allows you to cast any spell on your next round regardless of its requirements. This includes off school spells such as Efreet or even Shadow spells without the shadow pip! However, it completely drains your resources at the end of the round said spell is cast.

Acquired: Lvl 90

the first and last one would make balance even more overpowered than it already is. the first one just gives balance the ability to get a damage bubble for 2 pips. not as easy to use as balefrost, darkwind, etc. but balance with a gaze bubble atm is insane, a crit lore with the bubble can do 1500 through ward. balance does not need easy bubble control, if that happened balance would have no weak points. the last one is also a bit crazy. if a balance had 7 pips, they could use the spell, then proceed to gaze after. way too unpredictable, and with dispel shields, balance would be almost impossible to counter. if these are the spells that the best pvp school gets, then the death spells should be 10x better than these.

I couldn’t agree more. Balance doesn’t really need spells this crazy.

The reason gaze’s bubble is so problematic is because it comes immediately after you’ve taken heavy damage. Gaze puts you in the position of having to shield or risking a 1.5k lore, mispredicting the shield puts you in the position of having to shield again and generally by the time you have an opening to finally change the bubble, Balance has another Gaze ready. This bubble on the other hand is a neutral tempo bubble that is entirely a counter move that leverages no offensive pressure. It’s a dead card in Balance’s hand until you cast a bubble making it entirely defensive for the majority of the game.

As for splice it is an extremely powerful spell but I believe it is balanced. It completely erases a Balance’s pips- pretty much trading spam potential for a guaranteed combo. While it is powerful early game, mid to late game it is less so especially when you start to accumulate more than one shadow pip(remember it’s consequence includes erasing all pips which includes shadow pips).

Finally, yes I do have excellent spells planned for every school– future articles will be out shortly!

If the second and third spell were Astral School, then it would be balanced for pvp used, since none of the school could “abuse” the spell in anyway such as powerpip (since no player is naturally an astral wizard) or mastery amulet (currently there is none for the astral school), so all school could one way or another use these spell equally (Such as the Shadow Self spells). Of course some schools/wizards are more able to use it more effectively in one way or another, but at least everyone can access towards it. As balance wizards already have a good amount of utilities.

is splice all that good a spell? in terms of damage, you can’t boost it with your own pierce or base damage if its from another school, best you can hope for it that whatever spell you choose has a really great side effect. Efreets a bit of a gamble if your opponent has any defenses against it, like a dark pact spell, death spells like dr vons monster wont drain nearly as much…I mean lord of winter would be nice but if your opponent has enough pips…i would just like some examples is all.

In terms of PvP, Splice would definitely be better used to cast a shadow enhanced shadow spell w/o the shadow rather than an off school spell. In PvE(depending on your set-up) is where off school splice would really shine.

Still a shadow enhanced storm spell like iron sultan, with two elemental blades on, gg. Or burning rampage, gg.

Last one, most OP spell ever imagined! The Infinity Gauntlet of spells! But yeah over the top Eric.

Once it’s balance people are so negative….as balance being my main….the spell ideas are great…not over powered. ..just the required level should be higher for the first and third….
