How to Win in Pvp (Without Hurting Yourself or Others)

As you may know, the annual Wizard101 friendship festival has just passed us by. Recently I posted a throwback link to “How to Vent in PvP (Without Hurthing Yourself or Others)” on my Twitter and I was surprised at how many people were both liking the post and responding about how helpful it was back when I wrote it. So, I decided that in the spirit of kindness and friendship I’d attempt to assist once again, and finally complete its other half.

This post has been a little while coming and by “a little while” I mean two years. If you’ve spent much time in the pvp arena you’ve probably seen your fair share of rudeness, temper tantrums, and even swear-fests a bit of swearing, which- as we all should know -is against Wizard101’s rules. I get it though. Trust me. It’s really difficult to have courage and be kind keep quiet and/or be kind when someone is disrespecting you (or worse). This kind of behavior happens on both sides, coming from both winners and losers. However, it’s undeniable that it’s generally the losing side that has strong feelings about the match’s outcome or the winner’s play style.

You may be asking yourself, “But, Lion you already did a whole article on venting your frustration in pvp. Why are you starting off like this?” Well dear reader, it’s because of this that it is important to know how to win with grace so that people may not necessarily have to turn to my other article.

How to Wait for Turn Based Tourneys

With the new pvp update “Turn Based” pvp tournaments have arrived in the spiral! This is a long awaited feature and I, for one, am loving them! (Today I tried doing a regular 4v4 and I spent the entire time hating myself wishing it was turn based) However, a big issue that I’ve discovered is that there actually aren’t that many of them on the Tournament schedule! it’s a travesty…I mean…I could be a little addicted because they were just released, but still I just can’t handle waiting for them to come around and I just know that you guys have to feel the same way. Somehow every time I log on to see if one is coming up it’s an hour away! So what is an impatient player to do? Well,  that is what I am here to tell you!

Extra Life!

Hello everyone! This year I’ve decided to participate in Extra Life on KI’s team! This year it’s being lead by Dworgyn! This is going to be my first year doing this and I’m totally clueless, but it’s such a great cause!
Oddly enough, though, for me it’s more about the hospital than the disease. I’ve been blessed in my life to never have had a family member pass away from cancer, so my personal connection to Extra Life doesn’t stem from that. However, while I was making my hospital selection for the fundraiser- I contemplated supporting the in LA where I live now -I noticed Salinas Valley Memorial. This was the hospital where I was born and they cared for me during one of the most difficult times in my life. Letting a very scared, sick 16 year old keep the pair of hospital pants she was wearing (they’re super comfortable), even though they weren’t supposed to, is a moment that still sticks with me today.

So! Please donate to this lovely hospital and support Children’s Miracle Network! Click the link below to donate!

Chapter One: The Decidedly Unpleasant Morning

New to the series? Don’t forget to read the prologue, “The Knife in the Dark,” here!

Autumn Lionflower rolled out of her bed and hit the floor with a resounding thud. At least it was slightly rotted and as such softer than strong, healthy wood. She groaned and pulled herself up, noting in her cracked mirror that she have been floating in her sleep because yet again her hair was standing straight up and a bat hung sleepily from her ear. The banshees had been howling last night and as much as she normally enjoyed their melodious screetchings, she suspected that their yearly howl was taking place this week. An entire pack of banshees was just a bit much, even for her.

At this point you may have several questions on your mind. Continue reading

Deathly Decorating

For any housing aficionado the introduction of the new furniture packs was an incredibly exciting thing and given my love for the previous sets, I knew I was going to have a field day. I know this article may seem like it’s coming a little late, but I was moving…so…:p I just recently began decorating a death house, “The Incredibly Haunted House,” for reasons that will soon become clear and of course this set is the perfect fit for it.

I just wanted to talk briefly as briefly as I can which probably isn’t going to be that brief about how I’ve utilized the new death furniture in my new house, thoughts that I had whilst decorating, some suggestions, and hopefully provide some inspiration for my fellow decorator!

Note: This post isn’t intended to be a housing showcase for my death house. This is very much still a work in progress and the screenshots will attest to that. Rooms will be jumbled and in various stages of completion…so…don’t judge me

Prologue: The Knife in the Dark

*Note: I know, I know, this isn’t housing related at all! And what with House-a-Palooza starting today this is just totally out of place. However, I’m going to be having some lovely new housing related content coming right at you really soon! But, trust me when I say that this has to come first (it’s a sequencing thing…it’ll all make sense in the end..yadda yadda). May I present the official debut of the fan-fiction I’ve been writing for some time now! If you simply must have housing right at this very moment you can also head over to Adventures of the Spiral and read my massive article on kitchen design! Here!

The darkness was so thick it was almost palpable, yet a sliver of a moon shone an eerie light over Wizard City. Standing in stark contrast amid the gloom the door of a small, green house tentatively opened.

“Be careful out there Bella,” Lillith called out, “You never know what kind of creeps are out at this time!”

“You’re so paranoid!” the young, redheaded witch responded with a laugh in her voice. “It’s just Wizard City!”

Everything was calm and quiet, a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the day. Most witches and wizards slept soundly or at least were shut up in their homes, pouring over their spellbooks. They all knew that it was on nights like these dark magic could be spun with ease. However, in all the darkness this witch was a spot of light.

“Come on! Please just be careful,” Lillith’s eye’s shifted around the small square in front of her home and down the dark alley that Bella so confidently headed towards. “I’ve heard rumors about people disappearing you know…I mean… I know, I know I hear a lot of rumors…but this one sounded pretty legit! You can totally stay here tonight.”

Bella simply laughed and it sounded like birdsong. “Yeah just like the banshee that shows up in your room if you don’t pass some story on. You know those are just ghost stories! I’ll see you tomorrow,” she said and, with a last wink to her friend, she turned towards home.

The Lionflowers Do Luau Pt. 2 Review

It has officially been almost a week since the conclusion of the Luau and I certainly hope that Hunter Flame our champion is enjoying his massive winnings (congrats to him!) because he definitely earned it. This tournament was so unique in its format and I was incredibly intrigued right from the start. I’m always looking for alternatives to traditional pvp because, as a storm it can be really hard to get anywhere. So, Cat and I both signed up and hoped for the best.

You can read how I got ready for this unique Tournament in Part 1 of this post! Just click the button!

The Lionflowers do Luau! Pt. 1

Hey all! I’ve been a little quiet here on the blog the past week, so this blog post is all about what I’ve been up to. I’m happy to report that the Lionflower sisters have been accepted and will be competing in the Summer Luau PvP tournament (sponsored in part by Duelist101)! Despite the fact that we will probably be killed off in the first round, we put quite a bit of effort into getting ready for the tourney and in part one of this post I’m gonna just talk a little bit about that. While we do have our opponent’s information- both Cat and I will be facing a level 110 storm first -but really nothing else in terms of how our matches are going to go, after all twists and turns are what Luau is promising.

I used to go to so many events and report back on them with funny asides, so I’m really hoping to sort of do that again with this. It’s certainly going to be very different since spectators aren’t really allowed and there aren’t going to be any other events going on simultaneously (costume contest was already held this week), but I’ll give it my best shot.

How to Wait for the Test Realm to Load

So! The Summer Update has officially hit the Test Realm! What an exciting and joyous occaision! You jump onto your computer, type in your passcode, and ready your mouse….and wait. At last you’re into the game! You hit your house button, ready to see the new Arcanum spells…and wait…and wait some more. It’s a familiar story. Maybe your computer is a little slow or your internet connectivity a little shaky, or worse: maybe you just got a new computer, or downloaded the test realm, or simply haven’t been online in a long time, it’s ok! I’m here for you! This is “How to Wait for the Test Realm to Load!” (you can add “without hurting yourself or others” if it means that much to you. It’s ok, there’s no judgement here I mean there technically is but Cat is the balance, not me…buh dum chiissh…cheap Wizard101 jokes are cheap…)

Amusing intros aside, I’m literally sitting here and waiting for the test realm to let me into Bartleby so I can then wait for the arcanum to load…so…my first thought was, “Let’s write a blog post!”

Best Little Dorm Contest/The Musushi Kitchen

UPDATE! “The Musushi Kitchen” won third place in the Best Little Dorm in Wizard City Contest! Big thanks to Paige Moonshade for hosting it once again and for the amazing prizes!

Every year during the summer famed Wizard101 blogger Paige Moonshade hosts the “Best Little Dorm in Wizard City” contest! Every year the contest changes in theme and in requirements and this year I decided that since I really have nothing else to do I would join in the fun and report back about my experiences!

Now, I came into this really quite late which is typical, ya know so I only had two and a half days to fully decorate my dorm! Talk about a stress! This isn’t a simple decorating contest either. There are special “twists” and “turns” to consider.

“The Twist”

This year’s theme was “cold” and we had to use five semi-random items:

5 items

source: Paige’s Page

  • Balloons
  • A clothesline
  • Dog biscuits
  • A gas can
  • Some kind of flame
“The Turn”

We also had to write two paragraphs about our design: How it related to the theme “cold and how we had used the five special items.

After decorating we could only include three screenshots of our room in our entry. It’s a tall order to be sure! Now, here is how I tackled the challenge…
